Is Big Wheel Ride Toys Right to Your Child?

Your child’s first big bike…the one they are currently riding on their own. This could be the first time they have taken a ride on one, or maybe you have been fortunate enough to take them riding on their very own big wheel. Either way…it is just as special as any first ride with an adult. So what should you look for when your child rides the Big Wheel?

Audio: Is the audio included with the Big Wheel setup? It is important to have clear audio on your child’s riding experience so they can hear the people around them clearly and hear every detail of the ride. You don’t want to take your child out on a ride only to find out what the other riders are talking about. It should be a standard part of the setup!

Video: Does the Big Wheel setup come with a video? Many stores include a short video with the purchase of the toy. It is always a good idea to make sure this video gives you a good overview of what it is you are buying…especially if you are getting the Big Wheel in conjunction with another toy. Enjoy the video!

Sensors: Are there sensors that are included with the Big Wheel setup. While sensors are not necessary, they will be a great way to monitor your child while they ride. They will be able slow down if they hit something (hopefully not a tree) or slow down if the toy is lost. Some models come with extra sensors, but they aren’t as common.

Sound: Does Big Wheel come with sound effects recording? This is a nice feature that can be added to many toys. It can be a distraction for your child, but it can add to the fun. I don’t advocate buying one with a siren, or sound effects recording. But you shouldn’t buy one without them. Kids like to have fun, but they also need to have some boundaries.

Props: Does the Big Wheel come with its own set of riding pads and horns for you to attach to your child’s handlebars? Most do, but some don’t. It’s a good idea that the toy has all the necessary items. You may end up licking your child’s skin constantly. You can purchase riding pads at your local department or toy shop, but be prepared for a significant amount of money. The same goes for sound effects or horns.

Storage: Will the Big Wheel come with storage trays for you to put items on? Most likely not. But a good idea is to make sure it has enough room for at least one ride on toy. Kids get very carried away and sometimes forget that they are supposed to keep their toys in storage while they play with them. Having some extra room will alleviate that problem!

When you’ve figured out everything your child needs, you’re ready to start riding! It’s important to take it slow. Start teaching your child how the big wheel works and then teach them more difficult rides once they have grown up. Your child will love riding. It’s a great experience for them.

Safety is another important consideration. You should be aware that the handlebars can be quite rough so you will need to take extra care if your child is young and doesn’t have a riding license. You may also need to ensure your child wears a safety helmet, as they may not be skilled in controlling the vehicle. Although it may seem obvious, it is a must-have! The helmet will protect you and your child from head injuries.

Have fun. Remember that this is supposed not to be a stressful experience but a pleasant one. Plan lots of great rides for your kid, and don’t let anything distract from that goal. These first lessons are not to be taken lightly. All you need to do is have fun and everything will fall into its place.

There are plenty of riding toys that you can buy for your child when they are ready. You can ride with your child, making riding again fun. You’ll be both glad you did. Your child will thank you many times over! Big Wheel is an amazing adventure that you and your child will both enjoy.
